4.   MS Exchange Server ® vs Email Messages, backup set type:

More often than not, we tend to recommend that a client install and setup the Email Messages option for their critical email service protection. What is the difference?

a) MS Exchange Server ® is a full backup of the MS Exchange Server ®, which when, even if a single email requires restoration, the entire Exchange Mail store would need to be restored and re-mounted. After the delta-block (changes only) backups to the 10th revision, the 11th will backup and entire complete copy of the MS Exchange Server ® for speedier restore operations (depending on revision levels set) to the 21st revision, which will again backup another entire duplicate copy of the Exchange Server, and so on, until the 30th revision is reached, then starts over again. This option results in increased off-site storage sizes, and is available for the convenience or preference option of your IT support technician.

b) Email Messages backup setup option however, allow for block and file level restore operations. Using this option for your critical Email protection offers a more simplified, speedier and convenient restore service that offers more flexibility, simplifies migration efforts with reduced storage sizes.

5. Backup of System State & Advantages:

To create a system state backup, chose [File System] as the type, then click the [System State], click [Add]. Select the [Services Database] and click [Add].

The advantage of backing up your system state, is for full-system recovery that allows an organization to recover all its Active Directory, User Permissions, Permission Levels and Shares without having to reconfigure them. The other advantage is for a Bare Metal Restore operation.
